Solve today's Wordle
Put the green letters in their squares, list the yellow ones you know are in there, and the greys you have ruled out. We list every word that still fits — the most common answers first.

Wordle is a filtering problem
Each guess returns three kinds of information: letters in the right place, letters present but misplaced, and letters absent entirely. All three narrow the answer, and the absent ones narrow it hardest — knowing that E is not in the word eliminates a very large slice of English at once.
A solver works by holding every five-letter candidate and discarding those that contradict what you have learned. What it cannot do is guess well for you; that is a choice about which candidate splits the remaining list most evenly.
Choosing an opening word
The best openers are vowel-rich and use common consonants, because they maximise the information a first guess returns. Words along the lines of SLATE, CRANE and ADIEU are popular for exactly that reason. What matters is not the specific word but the principle: an opener that shares letters with many possible answers tells you more than one built from rare letters.
A second guess with five entirely new letters is often stronger than a guess that tries to use what you learned. Ten distinct letters tested in two turns leaves very little room for the answer to hide.
Yellow letters and repeated letters
A yellow letter carries two facts, and players routinely use only one. It says the letter is in the word, and it says the letter is not in that position — so your next guess should move it, not keep it.
Repeated letters are where most streaks die. Wordle answers with double letters are common, and its colouring for them is easy to misread: a letter can come back grey while the same letter shows yellow elsewhere, which means the word contains it once, not twice.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Wordle starting word?
There is no single answer, but strong openers share a shape: common consonants, several vowels, no repeated letters. SLATE, CRANE and ADIEU all qualify. Consistency matters more than the specific choice, since you learn how your opener behaves.
Does a yellow letter mean it is in the word twice?
No. Yellow means present but in the wrong position. Doubles are shown by the same letter appearing coloured more than once — and a grey copy alongside a coloured one means the word contains that letter exactly once.
Should my second guess reuse letters I found?
Often not. Testing five fresh letters gathers more information than confirming what you already know, and you still have four turns to place everything. That advice flips once the candidate list is genuinely small.
Are proper nouns ever the answer?
No. Wordle answers come from a curated list of common five-letter words, which is why obscure valid guesses are accepted as guesses but never turn up as the solution.
Is using a solver cheating?
That is between you and your streak. The more defensible use is afterwards: feed in the day's guesses and see which one wasted a turn. That habit improves your play in a way that being handed the answer never does.
