Help
Everything you need to get the most out of the solvers, from wildcards to scoring rules.
How the tools work
Every solver on UnscramblePilot shares the same dictionary engine. You type letters, set filters, and the server returns matching words in milliseconds. Results are grouped by length and ranked by tile value so the most useful plays appear first.
Most tools accept two wildcard characters: ? and _. Each one stands for a single unknown letter. This is especially handy for Scrabble racks with a blank tile or crossword clues where only a few letters are known.
Search examples
- Unscramble: tilecraft → every word hidden inside those letters.
- Anagram: listen → only words that use all six letters.
- Pattern: c_t_e → crate, cite, cute, etc.
- Contains letters: aei → every word that has a, e and i.
- Scrabble play: q??en → quick ways to dump a Q.
Dictionary limits
The word list is openly licensed and updated by hand. It covers common, obscure and inflected English words, but it is not an official tournament word list. If a game rejects one of our results, that usually means the game uses a stricter dictionary. Read the full disclaimer on the disclaimer page.
How do I unscramble letters into words?▾
Type your rack letters into the Word Unscrambler and press Unscramble. The solver returns every word that can be built from those letters, grouped by length and ranked by tile value. You can also filter by starts with, ends with, contains or an exact length.
What is the difference between the Word Unscrambler and the Anagram Solver?▾
The Word Unscrambler finds all words that fit inside your letters, including shorter words. The Anagram Solver only shows words that use every single letter you entered.
How do blank tiles or wildcards work?▾
Use a question mark (?) or underscore (_) for a blank tile. For example, typing tilecra?t tells the solver it can use any letter in the eighth position. The results show the actual letter used in that spot.
Can I search for words that contain certain letters in any order?▾
Yes. Use the Words With Letters tool and enter the letters you need included. It returns every dictionary word that contains all of them, regardless of order or position.
How does the Pattern Solver help with crosswords?▾
Enter a pattern like c_t_e where underscores are unknown letters. The solver fills in every dictionary match. You can combine it with known letters to narrow results.
Which scoring system should I use: Scrabble or Words With Friends?▾
Use the Scrabble Word Finder for North American Scrabble tile values and the Words With Friends Finder for WWF values. Both are shown on most results, but each tool defaults to the game you picked.
Why is a word I played in a game missing here?▾
Our dictionary is built from an openly licensed English word list. It is broad enough for casual play but it is not an official tournament list. Some proper nouns, regional spellings and very recent words may also be excluded.
Are the scores official?▾
Scores are raw tile values only. Board multipliers, double-word scores, bingo bonuses and special game rules are not included because they depend on the board you are playing on.
Can I solve multiple scrambled words at once?▾
Yes. The Multiple Word Unscrambler accepts several sets of letters separated by spaces or commas and solves each one in a single request.
What are permutations?▾
Permutations are every possible arrangement of your letters, even ones that are not real words. The Letter Permutations tool is useful for puzzle design and word study.
How do I report a missing word or a bug?▾
Send the exact letters or URL to our contact email. We review reports regularly and update the dictionary when we confirm valid words.
